RED BOOK CLASSICHE CERTIFICATION

Post by Steve Meltzer »

Let me say this from the outset, I've never been a big proponent or advocate for the "red book" process. However. I often wonder whether or not it really adds value to the car at the time of sale. At any rate, does anyone know whether or not the presence of MSD boxes is an immediate disqualification? Ditto the presence of Spal fans, clearly added later. Or is the process more arbitrary and capricious, depending on whether or not the inspector had a good night before the inspection.

thanks Steve.

You're sorry, but you're not sorry!

Many new buyers feel more confident with a Certification, but cars with non matching engines (correct type) can still get certified, so you have to read the fine print. I often advise buyers to consider the cost benefit of a certified car, since you won't have to go through the often long and painful process of certification. It's not a deal killer for me to buy a car without certification, but imo, it's worth a little more if two cars are identical.

Those mods will definitely not pass Classiche.

Steve,

I have a Classiche Certification that was done by the then head of the Classiche department. My car has MSD units in the left front wheel well behind the splash cover and there was no issue. If you look, they can be seen through the side vent.

I think Tom might have pictures of that process. He shepherded two (maybe three) cars through the ordeal.

I was told that the red book is a must for a European auction sale.

Thanks so much guys. At the moment, I think I will do what I've done for the past 10 years: sit on my tuchas. s
