I have a question about the routing of the front brake lines. In the owner’s manual photo, the line is shown passing through the steel bracket on the frame. On my Series II GTE, however, there is a second bracket on the rear side of the same cross member, and we routed the brake line through that one.
• It’s not really possible to run the line through both brackets.
• Using the upper bracket as in the manual seems problematic, as the rubber hose runs very close to the hot exhaust, needs to be longer, and forms a large loop.
• The rear bracket offers a much safer routing, so we used that.
It looks to me as if the line was originally routed through the upper bracket (as shown in the manual), but this may have caused issues, and later in production a second bracket was added at the rear without deleting the upper one.
The question: Did the early Series I GTE models only have the upper bracket? And was the routing of the brake line changed during production?
