Handbrake retractor fork

Post by Terry Gardiner »

I’m having trouble finding replacement retractor forks for the handbrake. I assumed that Jaguar parts would be a source but the forks with 41 mm mounting hole spacing that I was offered had fork legs that were too short.

Ferrari Classic Parts (Maranello here in the UK) have supplied forks (P/N 95691112) with the correct leg length but only 37.5 mm hole spacing. They are correct for the 275 GTB/GTS according the parts book for those cars.

The broken forks I removed are stamped VBM 4635/2, which is a Dunlop number I think.

Have any of you had this problem? How did you resolve it?

My best option at the moment is to modify the 275 GTB items. Not especially quick or easy without a mill but a possible stop gap way forward.

Don't know if this will help, but from a Dunlop/Girling parts book (last line):

Note, the same part is listed for the 330GT too.

Using the Girling #, the part is listed for:
ALVIS 3Litre
Aston Martin DB4
Bristol 407/408
Facel EXCELLENCE
ISO RIVOLTA GT COUPE
Jensen 541 '5' CV 8 , CV 8 MK.1I1
lagonda RAPIDE

Thank you Kerry. I had found the Girling part number but not the list of vehicles on which it was used.

Google doesn’t, for once, offer much support in identifying possible sources either for P/N 64328115 or VBM 4635/2.

My search is beginning to feel like a step back in time to when finding suppliers could be a slow process.

Hi Terry, did you try the retractor forks off a 150 Jag.
Almost certain that I got mine from Moss Motors so Part #
8846.
Number of years ago now, may not have been for a 150 (yeah - not helpful) but they fit at the time.
Car these went on is a S2 GTE.

Rgs,

Andrew.

Hi Andrew - the Jag part I was offered was for an E Type. I think. So the XK150 part might be an option.

I’m presently awaiting delivery of alternative parts from Maranello Classic Parts (Egham, UK), which they say will fit this time. We’ll see! If they don’t I’ll follow up your suggestion.

Thank you.

The replacement retractor forks supplied by Maranello Classic Parts under P/N 95691112/A fit well and are very nicely finished, in polished brass. Much more expensive than similar Jaguar parts but at least I have them.

Thanks again to those who responded.
