HOW MUCH PLAY SHOULD THERE BE IN THE ROLLERS

Post by Steve Meltzer »

Of the rocker arm assembly on a 330 GTC? I pulled the cam covers on my 330 GTC and the rollers of the rocker assemblies for #11 and #12 seem a bit sloppy in their side to side movement. Is this normal? The other rollers seem a bit snugger, but I did not use feeler gauges to quantify this. I hope this isn't too vague for someone to help me with this question.
Thanx,Steve

Steve, I would remove and inspect those rollers, if you haven't already.

Thanks, John, I've taken the assemblies off the cylinder head and I'm going to have them inspected by real Ferrari mechanic tomorrow. I knew that my question was vague and I did look at the rollers and they all look fine to me. I'm more worried about the "slop" in those moving parts. Thanks again. Steve

The side to side play is probably what Steve it talking about. Those bushings have to be fabricated from bronze bushings or shim stock. Your Ferrari Mechanic will know.

I took the rockers from the left bank to a professional Ferrari mechanic, who agreed precisely with the mechanic that I'm using to help me. We've worked together for many years. He thought the same rollers needed to be replaced, so that's what we're doing. The mechanic who's helping me do the work said that the engine has some strong similarities with the better, modern Honda engines! Not sure if it's an insult or a compliment.!
