3787GT
So last year at Monterey, 3787GT sold for $121,000 after undergoing $40,000 of restoration work. Today it is on eBay for $40,000, less engine and steering wheel. What a waste. Seems like you could have found a pre- restoration car to swipe the engine from and everybody would have won.

Re: 3787GT
Please tell me this is an ebay scam.
I think I'm going to be sick. I owned 3787 for one year. I imported it from Spain to FL. It was originally a Swiss car I think. That is/was a fantastic GTE, incredible color combination. It was mechanically sorted; I drove it every week for a year and never had any significant mechanical problems at all. It started every time. I can't believe this; I'd never have sold it if I thought this would happen.

Re: 3787GT
does not make any sense. Something must have gone sideways in between the resto and the donation of engine. The car is right next door to me, as well.
BTW, I finally convinced the california dmv to let me have black plates on my 1963 GTE. It took 3 tries, because the first two times...the sacramento bureaucracy spat my app back out, mostly due to the errors from the local office. I kept the euro plate in the front, right under the new black and yelllow ones. I bought a matching set on ebay, oooh, about 5 years ago? Luckily...they were "free and clear", as the seller claimed.

Re: 3787GT
I know there are certain individuals out there who shall not be named that can justify this action all day long, but I believe there will be a day when there will be real regret in chopping up a GTE, no matter what shape.

Re: 3787GT
Unfortunately, not a joke. I was told about the car prior to it being listed on ebay. Apparently the engine will be used as a spare for a 250 SWB. Julio Batista (on Fchat) of Madrid Spain owned and restored it prior to its importation into the US.

Re: 3787GT
That's correct. Julio Batista traded it to Pueche (very nice shop outside of Madrid), and I bought if from Pueche and had it shipped it over. Julio really fixed it up nicely, it was in really great condition when I bought it. I sold it to someone in Illinois (through Ed Waterman) and apparently they put even more work into it before it was sold at RM.
It's a shame to ruin such a nice car for the sake of a spare racing engine. Aren't there other spares lying around or at least a crappier donor.

I´m not only sad but angry about practices like this. She looks realy very nice and it´s a shame to part her out. There must be someone to find who reanimates her.

Re: 3787GT
That "riche" SWB owner was saving money! poor guy.
A new made engine at Ferrari cost about 160K USD. naked of course !
The first engines they build were a DISSASTER.
I have seen three-3- cracked blocks.
after the owners make a reclamation at the factory the renewed engine was broken in less then one week.
Simply trash.
I have no info on the last or later they build now.
its a pity about that car #3787GT

Re: 3787GT
But: Rebuilding this 3787 Engine will waste about 60K EUR - with the wrong number on it.
I don´t think the SWB owner was saving money, he only blows engines - and knows that - and needs more engines to blow.
poor guy...

Re: 3787GT
Kinda funny they they thought it was important to post the Classique Certification huh?????
Looks like if you had a GTE needing a full resto that this would be a much cheaper way to go.

Re: 3787GT
Should have bought a car already sacrificed for a crappy replica and used that engine. Any original car no matter how bad should now be saved, but a car that has already been converted in to a replica is fair game ... for anything.

Re: 3787GT
Mike Sheehan is selling an NOS F40 engine ( http://www.ferraris-online.com/pages/ca ... 0ENG-25627 ) for $40,000. Now how can we wedge this engine into the GTE...
