FACET FUEL PUMP 476087
FACET FUEL PUMP 476087
Greetings folks,
I know there's a ton of literature on the subject of the FACET fuel pump and I've read everything on the subject; however what I was looking for is a specific answer to the puzzle.
After having rebuilt both fuel filters/pressure regulators and the fuel pump with the new types of diaphragms on my 64 - 330 GT; I'm having a very difficult time keeping the engine running properly. After a while, the bowls run dry and I have to run the electric pump. This pump is the original electric pump and I'm afraid it'll fail while I'm on the road.
To that end, I will be replacing the current stock electric fuel pump with a FACET and it will essentially be the primary pump. The FACET I'm looking at is the 476087 or the NAPA 610-1074 however this pump has a pressure of 4 to 5 psi. This is the one most folks recommend. However, there's a lower pressure one, 2.75 to 4 psi. which is 477060 and would appear that nobody has any input on that one.
My question is which is the appropriate one when we take into consideration the fact that WEBER carbs operate best at 3 to 3.5 psi and anything going over 4 to 4.5 is asking for trouble.
Thank you for any thoughts on the subject.
Yves

Re: FACET FUEL PUMP 476087
Greetings... Somewhere in the back of my head, over on the left side I think, is a recollection that Ferrari went to Bendix pumps either in the late 330's or the 365. Bendix is now Facet and that round pump is essentially what was used then. I believe Parker had a sticker for the Bendix pump. I would go with the lower pressure

Dear Yves,
you would limit/set the pressure anyway using the pressure regulator you have on your car. I have the one with 4-5 psi.

Re: FACET FUEL PUMP 476087
Chris: On a 330 GT, the electric pump does NOT flow through the pressure regulator in the glass bowl filter. The electric pump passes fuel directly to the rear inlet in the carb fuel log.
Yves: If you intend to use the electric pump for starting and occasional extra fuel during hot weather or during high speed runs, either pump would be fine. If you intend to run the Facet pump all the time, go with the lower pressure unit. However, you need to find out why your mechanical pump is not doing the job. I suspect it does not have adequate stroke, and you need to reduce the thickness of the phenolic block to gain back the needed stroke to produce the correct fuel pressure and volume.

I've reached the conclusion that the old FISPA pump does a satisfactory job at a point where it is just a couple hairs from self destruction. You have to get the stroke to a point where you get the longest travel, but without bending or breaking the two support arms of the plunger.

On my early 330 GT the electric pump supplies a second filter/regulator on the firewall.

Tim: you are right, I have seen a few 330 GT's with twin filters, thanks for reminding me. However, I have always wondered if this was a factory installation or was is done by a later owner to try to do a better job of filtering the fuel.

Re: FACET FUEL PUMP 476087
Thank you all for having taken the time to respond and offer recommendations. My question has been answered.
As it stands now, I'm going to purchase the low pressure FACET # 477060 and use it all the time to supplement the mechanical one. Going the way DWR46 is recommending is the right way to go about it and that's what I would have done a long time ago; I do not have the luxury of having so much time in front of me. I just want to drive my 330.
I forgot to say that my 330 is early in the 64 production run - 6087. It has the two fuel filters/pressure regulators. One is mounted on the firewall and hidden by the windshield washer bag and the other is up front in line with the fuel pump and is mounted on the inner fender liner.
Thank you for your assistance.

Greetings... My car is a bit earlier, 5769, and that is the same design as mine. Go drive your car...

Re: FACET FUEL PUMP 476087
Hi Yves,
The SI 330s had two fuel regulators as you described, so it is correct for your car.
To fit a Facet pump, you will have to modify the hard lines going to your stock pump by cutting off the banjo fittings off. I had some special fittings made so you can keep the original fuel pump while running the facet pump in parallel. Here's the blog post:

Good luck!
